Helen Clark was the first woman to be chosen Prime Minister of her country in three successive terms (1999-2008) and the first woman to lead UNDP (2009-2017), who also reached the general secretariat of the United Nations in 2016. One of the distinguishing features along her professional career has been her defence of women's empowerment and the right for women to assume political, economic and social leadership just like men do.
